The next beautiful island on our list was Velassaru. We stayed in a luxurious watervilla (112 sqm) with our own private terrace and direct access to the swimmingpool-like ocean lagoon. It had a king-sized bed draped in sheer linen and silk, a freestanding bathtub and an espresso machine for the caffeine kick in between the snorkeling sessions.

Velassaru Maldives is a distinct Maldives Island hotel inspired by local architecture. Minimal chic revealed in teak, stone, thatch. Simple colour tones with a dash of bright green, vivid turquoise, refreshing yellow.

What we liked most about Velassaru:
- The modern design and architecture.
- The sunset cruise – watching dolphins jumping around our boat.
- The romantic candle-light dinner on the beach.
- The 5 different delicious restaurants.
- The small size of the ressort and feel of luxury and privacy.
- Lying in bed and watching the fish catch each other.
- Seeing the turquoise water – even from the toilet.

The next island to be explored by us was Kuramathi. We stayed in a beautiful beachvilla with a Jacuzzi which gave the whole experience some extra spice.

Set in Rasdhoo Atoll, on one of 5 islands located in this tiny archipelago, Kuramathi island offers a naturally Maldivian holiday experience, with unique twists to suit everyone.  Located 56 kilometres west from Male’ International Airport, the island is over 1.8km long. Guest villas are scattered around lush gardens, facing secluded areas of long beaches or poised over water. Many areas of the island remain untouched, inviting guests to leisurely stroll along deserted beaches or through virgin vegetation.

What we liked most about Kuramathi:
- The greeness almost Jungle feeling and the Botanic walk.
- The sting-ray feeding.
- The eco center with some interesting facts about the sealife.
- The sandbank.
- Getting to know a real Maldivian local who told us a lot of backround info about the Maldives.
- The evening light.

Being nicely welcomed at Kuramathi Lobby.   Starting the day with some fresh pasta and a glass of white.Afternoon SPA Treatment. Impressed by the heavy vegetation. – It was by far the greenest island on our trip.  We enjoyed the green-house lecture by Roshan Chhetri from India. They grow their own vegetables and plants. With freshly pedicured feet – off to the pool. Getting a tan. They even have their own little nature museum. Spectacular sting-ray feeding on the beach. Having a nice fresh grilled fish with Nastassja. Saying goodbye and heading to the next island. Enjoy three more Maldives parts every second Friday. In November 2012 my soon husband-to-be Christian and me went on a little paradise pre- honeymoon to the Maldives. After this journey we both decided pre-honeymoons are the best honeymoons. Since no journey is a real journey if it’s not done the NECTAR & PULSE way, we tested four different resorts in two weeks. Each one we will present individually because they were so different concerning character and style.

The first beautiful island we came to was: Kurumba – A true original.

It is set on a tropical island in the North Male Atoll, conveniently located a brief 10-minute speedboat ride away from the airport, Kurumba was the first private island resort in the Maldives. Lush tropical gardens, white sandy beaches, and a vibrant house reef are the hallmarks of this classic Maldivian resort.
The general standard of the resorts in the Maldives is very very high – but the places we visited raised in terms of luxury the order we visited them – which made us “wow-ing” every day a little bit more.
What we liked most about Kurumba:
- Kurumba makes a big effort concerning environment friendliness and waste management which is very important for the future of the Maldives.
- The Veli Spa.
- The felt privacy of the beach villas which are located right by the turquoise ocean.
- The originality and history.
- The orchid nursery.
- The friendly staff.

All in all it is the perfect family island. Not too fancy and not too modern and due to the very small size it feels homey and cosey as soon you put your feet on it.

After a quite long flight from Munich to Muscat (Oman) and from there to the Maldives we were happy to finally espy the characteristic islands from above. We took a seat in the spacious lobby and were very warm welcomed by the staff of Kurumba. This was our beach villa – like 10 steps from the crystal clear Indian ocean. From the first day on I totally fell in love with the outdoor shower. It doesn’t just look like a postcard – you feel like in a postcard. Warming my cold German November feet in the warm gentle sun. mhhhh oh lala
A windy breeze. Kurumba even grows their own orchid garden.We enjoyed some massage treatments at the Veli Spa. …and spent the nights watching the stars and palmtrees. They grow their own plant and vegetables. The boat taxi brought us back to the airport for going to the next island. Sad to leave – but can’t wait to explore the next Robinson Crusoe hide away.
